Training the entire NSHE community of over 25,000 individuals to use Workday is no easy feat. It starts with analyzing each Workday job process and function to establish how many users must be trained and the most effective method for training that functionality—via classroom instruction, webinar, written step-by-step instructions (known as job aids), or something entirely different. Each of NSHE’s eight institutions is contributing to this massive training effort, dedicating select staff members who have knowledge not only of Workday but also a deep understanding of their own institution’s unique culture to develop the methods and materials to make training a success. Together, this System-spanning team is known as the Training Liaison Group, or the TLG for short. With the help of the Project’s three-person Training Team, the TLG is tasked with developing training for the entire NSHE community. This past week, The TLG was hosted by Great Basin College in Elko, where they began the rigorous work of analyzing over 400 Workday processes to choose the right training method and draft step-by-step instructions for each. Over the rest of the Project’s timeline and well after Workday goes live in October 2017, these training plans and instructions will be modified when necessary to keep them aligned with NSHE’s configuration. The Project knows that one of the key ingredients in making Workday at NSHE a success is great training. That’s why it is planning training carefully and with the full involvement of every institution in a collaborative effort—so that the entire NSHE community can be confident that they will get the tools they need to be effective at their jobs using Workday.
